Oh! If only You could Read my Eyes

Words could mend a shattered heart
Love could fix a broken vase
I would have walked a mile in my tattered shoe
and my faint, quivering voice for finding you,
would have been spared the extravagant price
Oh! If only you could read my eyes

Rain wouldn’t make my eyes wet
I could smile despite my bleeding feet
The flowers wouldn’t turn pale in the mid-spring
and this long borne silence would lose its soul
as your breath would break the ice
Oh! If only you could read my eyes

The wingless bird would leave her qualms behind
The ruffled shore for once could breathe just deeper
The music from your eyes could calm a flustered mind
and the wounded sailor would then know
what it takes to stand tall in the face of pain and rise
Oh! If only you could read my eyes

I could learn what it takes to kill shadows
As the light wouldn’t desert me in the full moon night
All fears would be belittled, all struggles dignified
and this verse would seem just a bit less ordinary
as the horizon I dreamt of would have lived beyond time
Oh! If only you could read my eyes
